| AFTERMATH OF TRAGEDY |
| INTRODUCTION Due to the constantly evolving story in the aftermath of the tragedy that occurred at the home of the Chris Benoit family on the weekend of June 23, 2007, we have created a single source archive. Our intent is to sort through and manage all information as it becomes available. The story has spawned an enormous quantity of rumors, speculation, and misconceptions, and the very nature of the tragedy has the potential to affect professional wrestling right down to its very core. It is our belief that this – arguably the most appalling and troubling event in professional wrestling history – is something that will be studied by fans and scholars alike for many years to come. Our chief goal, therefore, is to separate verifiable fact from hypothesis and conjecture. This archive will be an ongoing work in progress for as long as the story continues to develop. There is a very real possibility that Congressional hearings may be on the horizon that could place WWE in particular, and the professional wrestling industry as a whole, in the national spotlight. Should that come to pass, the entire business may find itself in a state of flux. If the political forces do more than merely grandstand, it is feasible that far-ranging consequences could result. If you, the visitor, should discover anything here that is inaccurate or otherwise incorrect, please email us with the appropriate corrections, accompanied by valid references. As well, any additional facts that have not been posted in this archive will be accepted with gratitude. Again, we would also request a source along with the data, as the purpose of this enterprise is to prevent further half-truths and innuendo. In some cases, we have provided links to transcripts and videos where we have them. Again, we welcome your assistance and invite you to send any valid information to us. In an effort to prevent returning visitors from rereading the same portions of the website in search of updates, changes and amendments will be noted in red text. However, we also recognize that this method could cause frequent guests to sift through an ever-growing sea of red text. Accordingly, 24 hours following an update to red, the text will revert to black. We encourage all interested parties to visit the archive regularly. All credit to this section goes to Rich Tate and Mick N. Brawler (Georgia Wrestling History), Crimson Mask, GreyGhost, and Jack Raines (Wrestling Classics), Steven Johnson (Slam! Wrestling and Steel Belt Wrestling), Richard Berger (Fight Network), and Dave Meltzer (Wrestling Observer). Additional credit for outsourced information will be credited appropriately throughout this section. We would like to thank everyone for their kind words and support since we launched the feature. |
