Dykes defeated Mario Galento / Notes: During the match between Louie Tillet and Buddy Fuller, Tillet fell from the ring, and Fuller, rather than taking advantage by staying on top of him, allowed him a rest period when he had clearly been injured. The referee stopped the match until Tillet determined he could continue. Later in the match, the roles reversed, with Fuller falling from the ring, but Tillet did not offer the same courtesy in return, instead attacking Fuller, leading to the win. J.C. Dykes managed the Infernos. When Mario Galento challenged J.C. Dykes to their match, Dykes accepted only if Galento promised to leave if Dykes won. Following the match between Galento & Bobby Shane and the Infernos, the Infernos and Dykes attacked Galento, leaving him unconscious. Dykes claimed the match between he and Galento had begun, and the referee counted the pin when Dykes simply covered Galento. Leo Garibaldi was credited as being a referee on this card.

It was reported that the winners of the tournament would also receive $5,000. During the tournament, Enrique & Alberto Torres were declared winners of their match with the Infernos when time ran out and judges gave the match to them. The final match of the tournament saw the Torres brothers defeat the Mysterious Medics after the Infernos interfered, throwing a fireball at Medic #2 when the referee was distracted. J.C. The program for this card features a candid photo of Charlie Harben and George Burie’s two dogs, Rebel and Rebel, Jr., who reportedly act as watchdogs at the Paul Jones Sports Arena. Dykes managed the Infernos. The Infernos had been the reigning Southern Tag Team Champions since they defeated Bobby Shane & Mario Galento to win the vacant title on April 1, 1966, in Atlanta. However, Enrique & Alberto Torres defeated the Infernos in the final round of a tournament on May 6, 1966, in Atlanta, to win the vacant title. It is unclear as to how the Southern Tag Team Title became vacant to make the Atlanta tournament necessary. The last reference we have shows the Infernos defending the title against Bobby Shane & Mario Galento on April 15, 1966, in Atlanta. Thus, it appears as though the Torres’ were not recognized by the Columbus office.

Louie Tillet had vowed if he could not defeat Buddy Fuller, he would throw one hundred $1 bills to the crowd at ringside. Fuller had been billed as Southern Heavyweight Champion since March 25, 1966. There were two referees for the match between the Mysterious Medics and the Infernos. Charlie Harben and Leo Garibaldi were credited as being referees on this card. The Medics had been the reigning World Tag Team Champions since they defeated Eric & Karl Von Brauner on March 25, 1966, in Atlanta. J.C. Dykes managed the Infernos. During the match, both teams were in the ring at the same time, and one of the Medics pinned one of the Infernos, while the other Inferno pinned the other Medic. Garibaldi counted the latter, whereas Harben counted the other. Amid the confusion, Garibaldi ruled the Inferno who had pinned the Medic but Harben convinced him otherwise. Dykes reportedly filed a protest with the NWA, and the title was held up pending a review. The rematch ended up being held on June 10, 1966. Enrique & Alberto Torres had been the reigning Southern Tag Team Champions since they defeated the Medics in a tournament final on May 6, 1966, in Atlanta.
