The Assassins joined Capral to address the challenge issued to them by Terry Funk & Dory Funk, Jr., and said they would wrestle them as long as Leo Garibaldi was not assigned to referee the match. The Super Manager managed the Super Assassins. Paul DeMarco had been the reigning Georgia Heavyweight Champion since he defeated the Professional on June 21, 1969, in Atlanta. DeMarco was disqualified in the match against El Mongol when he hit special referee Al Lovelock. The program for this card featured an advertisement for Hub Ford at 3310 Peachtree Road, claiming Jim Wilson drove a 1969 LTD, “So why don’t you tackle one?” It was announced that Joe Scarpa would be wrestling on the card on July 18, 1969, and that Terry Funk & Dory Funk, Jr., would be wrestling in Atlanta soon. JULY 12 (SATURDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – WQXI STUDIOS (Paul Jones – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Paul DeMarco and El Mongol wrestled to a draw > The Super Assassins defeated Tony Nero & Phil Robley > The Professional defeated Assassin #2 / Notes: This was taped for the “Atlanta TV Wrestling” television program hosted by Ed Capral. The Super Manager managed the Super Assassins. The Assassins joined Capral and announced that they had proof that the Professional was Doug Gilbert under a mask. In the match between Paul DeMarco & the Assassins and Joe Scarpa, El Mongol & the Professional, Mongol lost the fall and had to leave. Per the stipulation, if the loser of the fall was a masked wrestler, he would have had to also unmask. It was announced that the Assassins would wrestle Terry Funk & Dory Funk, Jr., on the card on July 25, 1969. The Assassins had reportedly been upset with the Super Assassins using their name, and the Super Manager joined Capral, admitting to the name theft, going further saying he added “Super” in front of it because he believed them to be superior to the other team. The program for this card mentioned that Paul Jones received an ultimatum from NWA President Sam Muchnick to resign or force the Super Assassins to leave. A letter reprinted in the program, allegedly sent from Muchnick to Jones, addressed as the Vice President of the NWA, stated that the Assassins had an attorney contact him regarding the use of the name, and that Muchnick had been advised by NWA attorneys to take the action to avoid legal issues threatened by the Assassins. In a response to the ultimatum handed down by NWA President Sam Muchnick, stating that Paul Jones resign or force the Super Assassins to leave, the Super Manager issued a counter to the lawsuit pending by the Assassins. He challenged the Assassins to wrestle his Super Assassins for the right to use the name, and even vowed to unmask if his team failed to win the match. The Assassins shot back that it didn’t matter if the Super Manager unmasked, because they already knew he was Mario Galento under a mask. They added that there was no reason to wrestle for the name, when they earned the name many years ago, finishing by telling him they would let it play out in court. Leo Garibaldi was credited as being a referee on this card. It was announced that Danny Miller would be wrestling on the card on August 22, 1969. The Super Manager managed the Super Assassins. It was announced that the NWA was forcing the Super Assassins to change their name, and the Super Manager agreed to do so as soon as possible. As the show was ending, the Assassins and the Super Manager got into a brawl, and the latter was unmasked, revealing his identity as Mario Galento. AUGUST 26 (TUESDAY) – MACON, GA – MACON CITY AUDITORIUM (Fred Ward – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Midget Tag Team Match: Willie Wilson & Little Bobo defeated Little Bruiser & Little Crusher > Billy Spears defeated Tony Nero > Roberto & Cyclone Soto versus the Super Assassins ruled a no contest / Notes: Mario Galento managed the Super Assassins. Galento managed the Super Assailants. It was reported that the NWA had issued a ban on the use of the sleeper hold in Georgia as a result of the various injuries due to the hold in recent months. The program for this card mentions that the Assassins were the Georgia Tag Team Champions. It is unclear as to how they came to be recognized as such, as the last reference we have shows Chati Yokuchi & Mr. Ito still being billed as of the program on August 22, 1969. AUGUST 30 (SATURDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – WQXI STUDIOS (Paul Jones – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > The Assassins defeated Chati Yokuchi & Mr. Ito > Mario Galento defeated Gorilla Marconi > Super Assailant #1 defeated Billy Spears / Notes: This was taped for the “Atlanta TV Wrestling” television program hosted by Ed Capral. It was announced the Super Assassins were now to be called the Super Assailants. Mario Galento managed the Super Assailants. Despite the fact Paul DeMarco defeated Bill Dromo in a Loser Leaves Match on August 27, 1969, DeMarco wanted to face Dromo in a boxing match and Fred Ward quickly signed the match. The program we have for this card mentioned that Ward attended the NWA Convention in St. Louis, MO, over the previous weekend. It is also the first program to mention the “Columbus Championship Wrestling” program, hosted by Jim Koger, which was broadcast live each Saturday afternoon on WTVM Channel 9. It was announced that Dory Funk, Jr., would be wrestling in Columbus soon.
