It was in January 1975 that Abdullah the Butcher first appeared at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium, and from that day forward, he became one of the most vicious performers ever seen in Georgia. Some of his classic feuds around the state were against the likes of Bill Watts, Dusty Rhodes, Mr. Wrestling #2, Mark Lewin, Tommy Rich, Stan Hansen, and Tony Atlas. He had various managers here over the years, including Bearcat Wright, Rock Hunter, Gary Hart, and the Great Mephisto. Abdullah, known as Abby to his colleagues, won the Georgia Heavyweight Championship, the Georgia Television Title, the Macon and Columbus Heavyweight crowns, and also wore the North American Heavyweight belt. He was so pushed to the hilt as a monster heel, with Georgia Championship Wrestling often bringing in people such as Haystacks Calhoun, Bobo Brazil, and Andre the Giant to try and tame his wild antics. The ‘Madman from Sudan’ still graces rings in the state to this day, and has actually managed to be in a babyface roll a few times in his thirty plus years of wrestling in Georgia.
Abdullah resides in the Atlanta area, and can often be found at Abdullah's House of Ribs and Chinese Food. Click here for more info. |
