| Although Elvira Snodgrass spent little time in Georgia, her trips with husband / manager Elmer Snodgrass were said to be highly anticipated and attended. Known among the ladies as one of the toughest women to step into a ring, she began working in Georgia as early as 1941. One of her early appearances here included a World Title bout with Mildred Burke, with a rematch between the two coming in 1950. Over a decade, Snodgrass faced some of the most legendary ladies in the business here, including Mae Young, Gladys Gillem, Nell Stewart, and June Byers. |
