Perhaps known better as Ray Steele, Pete Sauer first appeared in Georgia during 1926, for promoter John Contos, under a mask as the Masked Marvel.  A few weeks later he was unmasked by Jim Londos, and wrestled as Sauer, before changing his billing to the Steele name many years later.  He wrestled frequently in Atlanta, and was a big hit with the local fans well into the 1930s.  After what appears to be his final Georgia match as Sauer in 1936, it would be four years before he returned as Steele, defending the NWA World Heavyweight Title.  Sauer is regarded in some circles as one of the most underrated champions of all time.
