| October 30, 2007 AWA Severing Some Ties It is unclear at this time exactly what is going on and how it may affect the local AWA affiliate World-1 South, but the Wrestling Observer reported the following earlier this evening: “The AWA has announced it will no longer sanction independent territories. Dale Gagne said they never had the success they hoped for and never intended the AWA name used for shows in bars, out of date military bases or American Legion Halls. They said the role of figurehead president and board of directors are disbanding. They will have some promoters represent the brand but each promotion will be individually assessed and those who don't share the vision, whatever that means, will be dropped at the end of the year.” We have reached out to Dale Gagner, head of the AWA and Jody Peterman, promoter for World-1 South for comment, but have not yet received a response. As soon as we know how this may affect the local scene, we will report it here. |
