12/06/2011 – Showtime All-Star Wrestling News and Notes
From Larry Goodman:
Tim Thomason has returned as editor of the television show replacing Bryan
Thompson. This was a business decision driven by Thomason's abilities to enhance
the show. This will give SAW's creative department (aka Paul Adams) more space to
devote to character development pieces, which had been curtailed while Thompson
was editing due to time constraints.
Rick Santel underwent knee surgery on November 22. Santel spent a couple of days
on crutches, and plans to starts back in the gym and with rehab by mid December.
SAW's next live event is set for January 7 at the Old Hickory Community Center with a
one night tournament to crown a new SAW Champion. The original plan called for
Chris Michaels and Chase Stevens to square off for the title, vacated by SAW owner
Reno Riggins, at the November 11 taping in Old Hickory. However, the match was
called off after Michaels was diagnosed with detached retina the week before show.
Michaels had been having trouble with his left eye for quite sometime. The injury
evidently resulted from the superkick Sean Casey gave Michaels in the aftermath of
their match at the Stadium Inn on May 28. Michaels has since announced his
retirement.
The winner of a Win & In tournament on January 7, involving Jeremiah Plunkett, Jesse
Emerson, Micah Taylor and Jon Michael Worthington, will join Vordell Walker, Ryan
Genesis, and Chase Stevens in the main tournament to be decided later in the
evening. Also on card will be Tracy Taylor vs. Abriella, Cody Melton & Johnny
Bandana, Jeff Daniels, and more. Tickets are on sale here.
