“Excessive Force,” at the NWA Arena in Cornelia, turned out to be a better show than all but the most optimistic NWA Anarchy fans could have expected. In a surprising title switch, Krazy K defeated Hayden Young to become the new Anarchy television champion. The owner of Anarchy exploded on Anarchy’s arch enemies. But it was the Texas Tornado match featuring Ace Rockwell and Slim J vs. Devil’s Rejects that stole the show with one of the best Anarchy matches in recent memory.

There was reason to question the wisdom of Anarchy’s decision to squeeze in another major show at this juncture. NWA Wildside traditionally allowed three months to build from Hardcore Hell to the summer big show. On paper, this show didn’t pack the emotional wallop or have the talent depth to give it that “big show feel.”

Spurred on by a molten hot crowd of 150, the Anarchy wrestlers turned it up a notch, and some cases turned the dial all the way to the right, to produce a memorable evening at the NWA Arena.

Ring announcer Ernie Rich introduced two servicemen that had just recently returned from Iraq. They saluted the flag during the singing of the national anthem.

(1) Brett Thunder & Randall Johnson & Adrian Hawkins beat Skitzo & Hector Navarro & Big Dog (with Rudy Boy Gonzalez)

If Anarchy is looking for somebody strap a rocket on, they need to look no further than Thunder. Everything he did was crisp and on target. He’s got the look to go with it, like a lankier version of “Z Man” Tom Zenk. Dog has decided that Afro-American blondes have more fun. Thunder took punishment to the back from the Texans. Thunder nailed an enzuigiri and hot-tagged Hawkins, who popped the crowd by vaulting off the top rope and charging full speed into the opposite corner to deck the heels. This thing was breaking down. Navarro and Hawkins clobbered each other with simultaneous clotheslines. RBG got in the ring to superkick Hawkins, but Thunder pulled him out. Hawkins pinned Navarro with an inside cradle. Postmatch, Gonzalez leveled Thunder with a superkick. A very hot opening match.

(2) Krazy K beat Dexter Poindexter to earn a shot at the NWA Anarchy TV title in 12:43

They did some amazing things in this match, but it lacked heat, probably because there was no issue that the crowd could sink their teeth into. Few gimmicky characters in pro wrestling are as well executed as Poindexter. His comedy stuff cracks me up every time. K hit his version of Seth Delay’s Kool Krusher and followed up with a springboard twisting legdrop for a near fall. K went flying through the ropes to the outside. Poindexter did the Exam Cram and hit a tope. With Poindexter hanging upside down from the middle rope and facing to the outside of the ring, K nailed him with a kneedrop off the top rope. It looked risky as hell but they were both OK. K applied an inverted chinlock/headscissors combo submission. Both men down after a flying knee by Poindexter. He pulled the suspenders down and hit a cravate legsweep, but K was in the ropes. K hit the Bluelight Special (drop down double knee from a J driller position) for a near fall. K pinned Poindexter with the OverDoSe (reverse DDT legdrop).

Adam Roberts entered the ring with the “Alabama sucks” chant ringing in his ears. Roberts said his partner, T. C. Carnage suffered a knee injury when he was “viciously attacked” during their match two weeks ago. Roberts said he had scoured the state to find an all-star Alabama athlete as a replacement. Out came a young, blonde Alabamian named Chrisjen Hayme.

(3) The Guys (Seth Delay & Patrick Bentley) beat Alabama Attitude (Adam Roberts & Chrisjen Hayme) in around 8 minutes

Bentley is cut beyond belief. Roberts carried the load for his side. It was hard to buy an innocent looking kid like Hayme as a heel. Guys were in control, until Delay displayed a total lack of psychology by whipping Hayme into the Alabamians corner and flying into a clubbing lariat from Roberts. Attitude used high impact double teams that had Delay in a bad way. Roberts missed bigtime on a cannonball senton. Bentley cleaned house. Bentley dismantled Roberts with a facebuster to the knee followed by an enzuigiri. Guys pinned Hayme with their finisher, a wheelbarrow/inverted lungblower. Decent match.

Roberts decked Hayme and referee Wesley Grissom after the match. Roberts was preparing to whip Hayme with the ref’s belt when Guys made the save. Bentley and Delay then made their peace with Hayme.

(4) Devil’s Rejects (Shaun Tempers & Azrael with Dan Wilson) beat Ace Rockwell & Slim J in a Texas Tornado match

This was a non-stop mix of mayhem and insane spots. In this cas,e It fit the story perfectly. There is so much hatred between these teams that it makes sense for them to risk their bodies doing stuff that makes no sense. The bell never rang. I’m guessing they went about 12 minutes. Rockwell and J crouched behind the camera stand and sprung a surprise attack on Rejects. Wilson was running for his worthless life. Rockwell set up a steel coffin of chairs at ringside and teased putting Tempers through it. The babyface team was blazing in the early minutes. Rockwell clubbed Tempers with his cast. Tempers was busted open. J broke up a Rejects double team by flying off the top with a reverses DDT on Azrael and backdrop to the heavens on Tempers. J hit a sensational tilt-a-whirl swinging neckbreaker for a near fall. Meanwhile, Wilson used his staff on Rockwell. Rejects doubled up on J and prevented Rockwell from helping his partner. Rockwell was able to bury a double knee in Tempers’ face. Rockwell stood on Tempers’ bloody face. Rockwell hit a stinger splash on Azrael. J did a step up headscissors on Azrael, who landed with a legdrop on Tempers. J went for the high arching moonsault but there was no water in the pool. In the psychotic spot of 2006, Rockwell put Tempers through a steel coffin of chairs with a top rope splash. That drew a “holy shit” chant. J escaped from Azrael’s cutthroat piledriver, hit the 360 Ace crusher and applied an inverted STF. Wilson interfered. J hit a wild corkscrew dive onto Azrael and Wilson. Tempers capitalized on the distraction. He pulled out a hammer and socked Rockwell in the gut. Tempers then hit a Tiger Driver to pin Rockwell. Wilson was orgasmic. The fans rewarded Rockwell and J with a tremendous round of applause. Babyfaces can rack up a lot of losses and stay strong in the eyes of the fans when they show this kind of heart and fire. If they come across as stupid or weak, it can be all over in a heartbeat.

(5) Krazy K beat Hayden Young to win the NWA Anarchy TV title in 11:15

They started the match like their left hands were glued together. K threw the first punch. They traded until K bailed. K landed a roundhouse kick to the face and Young took a time out. K did a slingshot to the floor where he pulled out the old Caprice Coleman baseball slide around the ringpost. Back inside, K went for the sprinkler elbow drop and Young rolled out of the way. Young connected with a spinning enzuigiri. K kicked out of a delayed cover. Young turned K inside out with a lariat for one near fall and hit his sky high legdrop for another. K answered with a tornado facebuster. K gave Young a double stomp for a near fall. K climbed but Young caught him with a full rotation german suplex off the top. They swapped stiff kicks to the thigh. K skipped over a sweep kick and leveled Young with a superkick for a great near fall. K did the headstand in the corner. Young converted it into an Alabama slam for a near fall. Young splattered his guts on a missed frogsplash. K reversed a pin attempt by Young for the 1-2-3. The unspectacular finish got a half-hearted pop. Technically, it was a very sound match. It was also a title change that came out of nowhere and not one that fans particularly wanted to see (see notes below on Lewis).

K circled the ring on his way out. Brandon P was in the first row. They hugged. P clubbed K and jumped the rail. P whipped K face first into the announcer’s booth. HARD. Fans got all over P. Security dragged P’s ass out of the building through the front door.

Rockwell cut a promo that was babyface fire personified. It makes all the difference in the world when a promo rings true with gut level emotion. Rockwell had a cast on wrist and a huge bandage around his gut. Rockwell said he had been best friend with Shaun Tempers for 10 years and they had worked their asses off (as Pomp & Circumstance) to get into Wildside. Now, he was going to kick Tempers’ ass. Rockwell said if Tempers wanted to bring a hammer, he would bring a sledge and be HHH for a night. If Tempers wanted to bring a bat, he would bring one wrapped in barbed wire and be Cactus Jack for a night. Rockwell asked for an Anarchy Rulz match against Tempers for where fans bring the weapons on 6/3. “Sean Tempers, your ass better come for a fight, because I’m not coming for anything less.”

(6) Chad Parham beat Jeff Lewis to retain the NWA Anarchy Heavyweight title with the help of Mikal Adryan (15:05)

Lewis’ entrance got the expected heat but also some applause. The champion is now billed as “Technical Perfection” Chad Parham. At 5:00, Lewis tried to suplex Parham to the outside and Parham made him eat the apron. Parham dove over the top and ate the rail. Lewis whipped Parham’s back into the rail. Back inside the ring, Lewis tried to pulverize Parham’s back. Parham landed a dropkick and both men were slow to rise. Parham won a battle of chops. Parham’s comeback built to an STO for a near fall. Parham gave Lewis the airplane spin. But Lewis got his knees up on Parham’s signature senton backsplash. Lewis hit a torture rack spiral slam for a near fall. Lewis went for the Lewis Driver and the Curtain Call, but Parham foiled both of them. Parham potatoed Lewis with an enzuigiri. Lewis managed to kick out. Parham went for the top rope double stomp and got ref Brent Wiley instead of Lewis. That looked brutal. Lewis hit a Russian legsweep but no ref to count. Lewis picked Parham up for the Curtain Call. Adryan met him with a Mafia Kick to the mush. Parham hit the senton backsplash and covered. Jeff G. Bailey splashed water on Wiley’s face to revive him for the count. The finish was poetic justice after Lewis screwed Adryan out of the title two weeks ago. Fans chanted “thank you Bailey.” Bailey cracked Lewis across the face on his way out.

Wilson entered the ring with Iceberg. The self proclaimed puppet master said Tank was off on his own roadkill tour and introduced the disfigured monster Dominous as Iceberg’s partner.

(7) Urban Assault Squad (Shadow Jackson & Nemesis beat Devil’s Rejects (Iceberg & Dominous with Wilson) via DQ (10:16)

This was war. Four-way action to start. Jackson was able to stick and move against Dominous. But Iceberg clubbed Jackson with a rabbit lariat to make it two against one. While Rejects destroyed Jackson on the inside, Wilson used the Staff of Righteousness on Nemesis on the outside. Among other violent things, Berg used a spinebuster and a Thigh Drop of Doom. When Iceberg hit Ground Zero splash, Jackson was writhing in agony. Jackson somehow summoned up the strength to catch a charging Iceberg with a powerslam. UAS gave Iceberg a flapjack. Dominous goozled Jackson for a chokeslam, but Nemesis broke it up and clotheslined the giant over the top. They action spilled to the outside. Azrael and Tempers attacked UAS. Ref Speedy Nelson called for the bell. Rockwell and J joined the fray and the place was up for grabs.

Rejects laid out the babyface side. Wilson, who was still in the ring with Tempers and Azrael, asked if there was anyone else. Out came Anarchy owner Jerry Palmer to a monster pop. Wilson dared Palmer to get in the ring. Palmer did. Palmer exploded with a clubbing blow to Tempers and a killer powerslam on Azrael. The pop was deafening. After all the build up with the videos of Palmer in training, it was crucial for his first spot to look good and it did. Wilson freaked and ran away with the tag belts. The show closed with Team Anarchy standing tall in the ring and the fans on their feet.
