This was free show sponsored by the Student Affairs Division at Oglethorpe University to amp up the student body for the first home basketball game of the season featuring the awesomely named Stormy Petrels. The crowd at Dorough Fieldhouse was around 300. (1) "The American Wet Dream" Evan Turner pinned Matt Vice at 13:47. Indierific. They killed a bazillion finishers in the process. Turner is a heavily tatted guy that wrestled for University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Turned used two sideways variations of a tiger suplex followed by a dropkick for the pin. Tim Doyle, Dean of Student Affairs (and a 12 year veteran of the wrestling business) came out with head basketball coach Phil Ponder came out to address the crowd. Enter Cru Jones, Lance Christian and Kodiak. Jones insulted the coach and the dean. That brought A.J. Steele out. He challenged the heels to a 6 man with Doyle and Ponder as his partners. (2) Matt Black (with KB) beat Savage in 4:40. Indierific redux. Savage got the biggest pop thus far by slamming Black on the hardwood floor. KB was extremely active at ringside. KB gave Savage a low blow to set up the pin. Savage laid out Black and KB in the postmatch. (3) Frankie Valentine pinned Nightmare (Ted Allen) at 6:15 with a backslide. Solid 80s style match. Valentine bled from the nose AGAIN. He got over as a babyface with great fire. Valentine's stepdad is former AWA World Tag Team Champion Doug Sommers. (4) J-Rod & Josh Storm beat Oko Nono & Jake Slater in 10:22. J-Rod carried it. Nono's gimmick has a vaguely Delirious type energy to it. J-Rod tossed his tiny little partner over the top onto the heels. They did a musical chairs comedy spot. Storm took the heat until Ono missed with a swanton bomb. Moments later, J-Rod reversed out Slater's piledriver attempt to score the pinfall. (5) Vordell Walker beat Superstar (NOT Bill Eadie) in 9:01. Walker came out wearing a Stormy Petrel jersey. Superstar reversed a whip and Walker took a flip bump into the row of chairs occupied by the women’s basketball team. Walker’s knee went out. Walker sold the knee huge as he was making his comeback. Finish was a gutbuster followed by a dropkick. (6) A. J. Steele & Tim “The Professor” Doyle & Phil Ponder beat Cru Jones & Lance Christian & Kodiak in 16:47. The heat was through the roof for this very entertaining match. The building exploded when Ponder chopped Jones. Doyle hit a sidewalk slam on Christian for a near fall. Kodiak took over on Doyle after a blind tag. Kodiak is doing the Russian powerhouse gimmick. He powerslammed Doyle and let me tell you, that’s a lot of beef. Steele ran wild with the hot tag. He gave Christian a gorilla press over the top onto Kodiak. Finish was a Steel City Bomb from A J., a big splash by Doyle and a flying bodypress by Ponder that brought the house down. |
