NWA Anarchy’s Hardcore Hell ’07 wasn’t the best wrestling show the company has ever put on, but it will definitely go down as one of the most memorable. NWA Anarchy fans aren’t overly enthralled with technical wrestling. They get their rocks off on fast-paced action and emotionally-involving storytelling, and last night’s show gave them plenty of both. With the exception of the living hell known as War Games, the main event contained as much violence and bloodshed as anything that has ever taken place in the NWA Arena. Aficionados of extreme style will want to have this DVD. The 11th annual edition of this event drew an SRO crowd of over 300. The Hardcore Hell tradition originated with National Championship Wrestling (1997-1999), which morphed into NWA Wildside (2000-2005) and, in turn, to NWA Anarchy. This was a beautifully paced show. The card was structured to give the fans just the right amount of content to prime them for the main event. At that point, the thing exploded. Ring announcer Eddie Rich opened the show with a ten bell salute in honor to all of the greats the world of pro wrestling has recently lost: Bam Bam Bigelow, Mike Awesome, Arnold Skaaland, Bad News Allen, and Ernie Ladd. ER introduced Mary, the “Anarchy Angel.” Her all black outfit was delightfully sinful. A major league Diva look. Killer abs that woman has, among other things. (1) Austin Creed & Hayden Young beat Hollywood Brunettes (Kyle Matthews & Andrew Alexander) in 13:34 Based on the off-the-chain heat for the opener, the crowd was clearly psyched for this show. Brunettes do the camera reel thing as the pull off their hoods. Creed and Young owned the first five minutes. They gave Matthews a gorilla press and heaved him over the top rope onto Alexander. Then, they nailed Brunettes with stereo flip dives. Alexander pumphandled Young’s arm over the top rope to start the heat. Brunettes worked the arm. Alexander took a bump over the top on an Irish whip to set up a classic ref distraction sequence. Alexander busted his ass on an ill-advised top rope legdrop attempt. Creed cleaned house. Alexander caught Creed with a running knee and Young made the save. Creed gave Matthews a rocket launcher onto Alexander. Creed nailed Matthews with the Montefisto, but Alexander put his foot on the ropes. Brunettes went for their finisher, but Creed broke that up. Moments later, Young made a blind tag and pinned Alexander with a springboard bodypress. Creed and Young motioned that the tag belts were coming to them. (2) Salvatore Rinauro beat Todd Sexton in 11:29 This match stemmed from the backstage incident at the last TV taping wherein Rinauro bonked Sexton with a 25 pound barbell. Rinauro did a promo talking about the potential for further brain damage, advising Sexton that with a beautiful wife and baby at home, it wasn’t worth the risk. Not a lot of heat. Fans used this match to catch their breath for the monumental events to come. Sexton was smacking Rinauro around in the early going. Sexton did a ropes walk legdrop on Rinauro’s arm. The momentum shifted when Rinauro pushed ref Brent Wiley into the ropes to upend Sexton. Rinauro got evil. Sexton roared back with a charging lariat that left both men on the canvas. Sexton yelled “Jimmy!” and hit Rave’s Ghanarhea for a near fall. After a top rope superplex, Sexton went to the outside selling his tender brain tissue. Rinauro followed and ended up getting draped over the top rope. Sexton hit the Gamebreaker and applied the Sexton Stretch, but Rinauro got a foot over the rope. Rinauro did a number on Sexton’s aching head and followed with a Jimmy Rave running knee to score the pinfall. Sexton appeared to be knocked out. (3) Patrick Bentley beat Adrian Hawkins & Seth Delay in a handicap match (8:40) Not much heat for this one either. Delay and Hawkins made shameless use of their numerical advantage, especially Delay, who wanted in once Bentley was in a bad way. “D Ladies Man,” who appeared to have Charley’s Angels outlined on his trunks, disgusted the crowd with the swivel hips gyrations. Delay missed a corner splash and took an exaggerated heel bump. Bentley set Hawkins up for his finisher, but Delay cut him off with a lariat. They started to lose the crowd here, as Bentley was taking a beating and showing little life. Bentley finally rallied with a flying double knee that put both heels on the deck. Bentley smoked Hawkins with the Full Articulation. Delay ran in with chair. Ref Wesley Grissom pulled the chair away from Delay and Bentley rolled him up for the 1-2-3. Hawkins and Delay were ready to brain Grissom with the chair when Bentley ran back out to make the save. (4) Justice Served (Jason Justice & Mikki Free with Al Getz) beat Urban Assault Squad (Nemesis & Shadow Jackson with Jerry Palmer) in a Double Noose Match to retain the NWA Anarchy Tag Team Titles (10:13) Now this match had heat. UAS love abounds in Cornelia. They got an extended entrance pop that was unrivaled on this night. Nooses were placed on poles in opposite corners of the ring. As promised, Anarchy owner Palmer was also armed with a noose. UAS were having things their way. Free ended up on the outside and Palmer leveled him with a lariat. Getz went nuts. Ref Harold James ordered Palmer to the back. Justice posted Jackson and doubled up on Nemesis. The crowd started chanting for their heroes. JS tied a noose around Nemesis’ ankle to keep him under control. Getz ordered Justice to choke Nemesis out with the noose. Nemesis looked like a goner. Justice said to check him. Nemesis rose from the dead. Justice speared Nemesis in the corner and climbed up to grab another noose. Nemesis countered with a massive powerbomb on Justice, and the pop was like thunder. Jackson took Justice out with a lariat, but Free cut Jackson off with a lariat of his own. Nemesis had Free up for a slam when Getz yanked the rope tied to Nemesis’ ankle. Free landed on top and got the pin with Getz pulling on the rope. So Justice Served beats UAS in their own specialty match. Very interesting. Postmatch, Justice Served handcuffed UAS to the ropes. Getz went after Mary. Palmer ran out and decked Getz. Justice Served then hung Palmer over the top rope with UAS helpless to offer any assistance. Mary ran to the back for help. The entire crew of refs and security guards ran out with Bill Behrens in the lead and pulled Palmer down. Fans chanted “you suck” at Justice Served. (5) Phil Shatter & Truitt Fields & Kirby Mack & T. J. Mack beat Brodie Chase & Brandon Phoenix & Adam Roberts & Don Matthews in 12:20 The match opened with babyface domination featuring a flashy Team Macktion combo move. Fields’ major league physique really stood out in this company. Matthews also stood out but not in a good way. Somebody get than man some decent gear. Chase speared T. J. for a near fall at 4:15. T. J. escaped for a tag but the heels got bigtime heat on Fields. The crowd got behind Fields like they never have before. Chase hit a pumphandle back suplex followed by a pumphandle backbreaker for a near fall. Chase threw his thumb over his shoulder to direct the ref into the babyface corner, so the heels could beat up on Fields. Funny stuff. Fields went through the legs to make the hot tag. Macktion hit a double 619 on Chase, and then, a stereo flip dive to the outside. Fields hit a flying forearm reminiscent of A. J. Styles. While everyone else was brawling at ringside, Shatter pinned Chase with a powerslam. The finish got a huge pop. (6) Chad Parham beat Ace Rockwell & Slim J & Jeremy Vain in a Double Jeopardy Match. Parham pinned Rockwell to win the NWA Anarchy Television Title and retain the NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Title (13:39) An action-packed match with great heat. The crowd booed the appearance of Wiley as the ref. The pop for Rockwell was the best for any single individual. But that’s nothing new. Parham is now billing himself as being from Buckhead. The story here was that neither the babyfaces or the heels could work together over the long haul. J put on a show. He hit a springboard double lariat and followed with an awesome corkscrew plancha to the outside. J and Ace started going at it. Vain showed up, so they both slugged him. Parham did an 18 count vertical suplex where he released his grip to wipe the sweat on his tights. J hit a flying reverse DDT on both heels and made pin attempts on all three opponents. The heels took over, but it wasn’t long before they were bickering over the pin attempts. The faces surprised them with double reverse atomic drops and took control. Parham came back with a top rope double stomp on Rockwell, but J nailed Parham with his 360 Ace crusher for a close near fall. J covered Rockwell for two. Vain dumped J and hit a Gori bomb on Rockwell for a near fall. Parham took Vain’s face off with a wicked stiff kick. Parham kicked Wiley. That got a pop. Rockwell hit the Aces High on Parham. Grissom hit the ring to make the count but Vain pulled him out. J covered with one arm and Parham kicked out. Parham countered J’s huracanrana with a devastating jumping piledriver and Rockwell saved. Vain and Rockwell came off the top from adjacent corners and knocked heads in midair. Parham pinned Rockwell with a fistful of tights. After all the cool twists and turns, the finish came across as an anticlimax to what was otherwise an excellent match. Parham made a huge deal out of leaving with both belts. Really rubbed the fans’ faces in it. What an a**hole. (7) Devil’s Rejects (Tank & Iceberg & Azrael & Shaun Tempers with “The Rev” Dan Wilson) beat Team Elite (Jeff Lewis & Kory Chavis & David Young with Attorney Jeff G. Bailey) in an Anarchy Rulz Match (21:25). Insane violence. Crazed heat. Indescribable carnage. It was a fans-bring-the-weapons match devoid of rules, basically a 7 man death match involving an astounding arsenal of armaments. Way, way, way too much stuff going on to try and cover all the details. Young got the “welcome back” chant. He hit a flip dive and it was on. Young stuck Tempers’ head inside a dryer and slammed the door on his head. Tank bloodied up Young with a fork and licked it clean. Tank blasted Chavis in the back with a tack bat. Chavis retaliated with two full swings to the head. Chavis brained Iceberg with a miniature guitar. The guitar became the weapon of choice. Young whacked somebody with a computer keyboard, showering the crowd with keys. Rejects made Lewis into a human javelin, flinging him headfirst into the post. Lewis was busted open. EVERYBODY was busted open. Pizza cutters will do that. Tempers had the full crimson mask effect. The crowd chanted for tables. Bailey ran wild with a water jug on a pole. He was blasting every Reject in sight and swinging for the fences. Iceberg set a table in front of Lewis and shattered it with a cannonball corner splash. Tank brought out the lights tubes and busted one on Chavis. Young powerbombed Azrael onto a trash can. Azrael was a quivering mass of bloody flesh. Azrael destroyed himself with a legdrop off the apron onto the dryer. Lewis put Tempers through a table with a climbing overhead suplex, and Tempers went through HEAD FIRST. There were tons of sick bumps in this match, but this was the sickest and got the “this is awesome” chant. Young gave Iceberg a spinebuster to start a round of annihilation finishers. Wilson and Bailey ended up in the ring. Wilson charged and Bailey tossed a handful of tacks into his path. Wilson went down in agony with tacks sticking into his feet. Abomination and Dominous came out. The giant monsters pounded the hell out of each other and battled to the back. Tank pinned Lewis with the Go 2 Sleep knee. After all that had gone before, even that sick move was an anticlimax. NWA Elite got more than even in the postmatch with an amazingly sick spot. Abomination put Tank through the thumbtacks/light tube-loaded table with a chokeslam off the apron. An EMT put Tank in a neckbrace and the fans applauded as was carried out on a stretcher. NOTES: Onyx reportedly missed the show due to injury…Palmer was wearing a neckbrace after the show…Rave was backstage…NWA Anarchy returns to the NWA Arena next Saturday night for another international television taping featuring Rinauro and a mystery partners vs. Sexton and a mystery partner, the return of Texas Treats and update on Onyx…The 4/6 Georgia Wrestling Promotion in Ellijay, Ga has Tempers (with the Rev & Kayla Kaos) defending the Southern title against Adams Jacobs, Iceberg in a bodyslam challenge and Melissa Coates vs. Sumie Sakai. |
