Southern All Star Wrestling is now available for internet viewing at The Superstation TV. LAST WEEK! Arrick Andrews had Hammerjack pinned after hitting the Dragon’s Curse when that lunatic fan interfered again. Hammerjack and his acolyte teamed up for a stuff piledriver on Andrews, who was carried out on a backboard…Indian Nation defeated Homicidal Tendencies to win the SAW Tag Team Titles. Michael St. John and Jack Johnson were at ringside to preview the upcoming hour. Liht would be shed on the identity of Hammerjack’s crazy fan. The SAW Television Champion, Nore Havoc was back from his highly suspect European tour, and a HUGE announcement from SAW Commissioner Freddie Morton. (1) Indian Nation (Lennox Lightfoot & Indian Outlaw) beat Big Rig Bully & J-5 (with Cocky Cody) via double submission to retain the SAW Tag Team Titles. Match was joined in progress with J-5 and Cody beating up Lightfoot on the outside. Reno Riggins was on commentary with St. John. Bully hit a stalling vertical suplex where he paused to wave at the crowd and flex his bicep. Lightfoot came back with a lariat, but Bully cut off his tag attempt and tagged out. Ref distraction and double teaming by Cody and Big Rig ensued. Lightfoot ducked a tandem clothesline and nailed a double clothesline. He hot-tagged Outlaw, who cleaned house with tomahawk chops. It broke down to messy four way action. Nation did the dosey-do to avoid a collision. They applied dual Indian Deathlocks and the heels cried uncle. March 1 in Columbia at Morton’s Auction House – All the stars of SAW in action! Rick Santel vs. The Boogie Woogie Boy, Indian Nation ( ) vs. Law & Order (Lawrence Lane & Jason James) and the debut of Steve O. (2) T. J. Harley beat “Colossal” Chris Cane in 6:15. Chain wrestling to open. Riggins said Cane’s vertical challenge gave him the advantage of a low center of gravity. Reno said he knew about that from personal experience in taking down the likes of Kevin Nash and Razor Ramon. Harley put Cane on the canvas with a kick to the head. Cane backed off selling the effects. Cane cheated on the break and opened up on Harley. Cane impressed Riggins again, as he scored near falls with a release german suplex, a field goal kick to the kidneys and a high dropkick. Cane went for submissions with a grounded octopus and a triangle. St. John called it an interesting maneuver. Harley broke the hold with a running Liger Bomb to spark the comeback. Cane hit an STO but Harley kicked out. Cane went for it again and Harley countered with a swinging backbreaker for the pin. Cut to a pretaped segment with Freddie Morton making the announcement that SAW would be moving to the ION Network affiliate in Nashville (WNPX 28) on Saturdays at high noon starting April 5. WNPX reaches 2.5 million homes across Middle Tennessee. (3) “Boogie Woogie Boy” Gary Valiant pinned “Playboy” Scott Hayes in 6:10 with the Boogie Blaster. Reno notes Hayes resemblance to a young Jerry Lawler. Hayes attacked before the bell. Boogie got his bearings and snatched a side headlock. Back elbow to the chops and Hayes offered a handshake while crossing his fingers behind his back with the other hand. Hayes suckered Valiant in and slung him into the turnbuckles. Hayes totally took over the match. He had Boogie in a bad way. Hayes hit a spinwheel kick but Boogie kicked out twice. Hayes pulled the strap down and dropped an elbow. Boogie kicked out again. The fans urged Boogie on for a rally. Hayes went to the eyes and hit a sweet jumping back elbow for a near fall. Valiant surprised Hayes with an inside cradle. Hayes cut him off with a lariat. Hayes made The Big Mistake by knocking the wind out of himself on a failed Stinger Splash. Boogie fired up with punches to the gut. He did the Jimmy Valiant mannerisms and decked Hayes with a haymaker. Big chop in the corner and it was blast off time. Johnson went to ringside for a word with Boogie, who launched into a rambling, disjointed speech on his current state of affairs. Boogie said it was a crying shame the way Rick Santel turned his back on him. He trusted Santel. Even took the guy with him to do charity work with the kids and the vets for God’s sake. Boogie said if Santel wanted to run with the A team, that was fine. Santel would be his in Columbia. Boogie said he taken one man under his wing that he could trust and that was Arrick “The Dragon” Andrews. Boogie said when Andrews got medical clearance they would be teaming up. Boogie vowed to pay Paul Adams back for smacking his wife. Boogie ended the segment by laying a big kiss on Johnson. Riggins introduced a video that he received at the office. It showed Paul Adams and Hammerjack out for a drive in the country. Adams wanted to offer the mystery dude a spot in their organization. Adams said it looked like Hammerjack knew the guy. Hammer said they went back a long way. Adams asked Hammer to hook him up with the guy’s cell number so they could set up a meeting. Hammer said that guy didn’t have a cell phone but there was a way to meet him. “How much gas you got?” said Hammer. Adams said, “How much gas do I need?” Adams wanted to stop to check Mapquest. “Paul, you don’t understand, man. I don’t think Mapquest is going to help us get there. You just drive. I’ll point the way.” Cut to Paul and Hammer walking through the woods. Paul, dressed in a dress shirt and tie, was carrying a cup of hot cocoa and whining about how he didn’t like nature. Paul tried to jump across a small stream and landed in the muck. They got to the lunatic’s cabin. The lunatic came out cussing and gave Hammerjack a hug. Paul took off in a dead run in fear of the guy’s little dog. Hammerjack asked the lunatic when he got out. The lunatic said that was a funny story. Paul returned and claimed he had been chased by a wolf. The fanatic said Paul should have just emailed to tell him he was coming. Adams offered the lunatic a spot in the A Team. Paul said he had paperwork. The lunatic said he didn’t need no stinking paperwork. He spit in his hand and offered to shake on it. Paul reluctantly accepted. The lunatic told Adams to come inside for some moonshine. He grabbed Paul around the neck. “You’re family now.” Back from commercial, St John tried to get to the bottom of Havoc’s European tour. “You’ve got me on the grassy knoll in Dallas. You got all kinds of conspiracy theories when it comes to Paul Adams.” Paul claimed Havoc’s European tour was scheduled long before he won the SAW Title, and like he real man, Havoc honored his commitments. To prove his point, Paul produced a package of Swiss cheese from Zurich. St. John said it was Boar’s head. Paul said they had outlets in Switzerland. Paul produced a jar of tomato gravy (Ragu) from Rome. Mike Sircy came out. Paul gave him a bottle of beer from Hamburg (a 22 ounce Heineken with a Tennessee revenue stamp). Sircy drew Damian Adams as Havoc’s opponent for tonight’s TV title match. Paul said by airing the backwoods footage SAW had done him like Britney Spears. (4) Nore Havoc (with Paul Adams) beat Damian Adams in 7:45 to retain the SAW TV Title after interference by Rick Santel. Havoc jumped Damian while Paul called for the bell. Damian came back with a high crossbody. Damian with fists of fire, and Havoc scooted to the outside. Damian gave chase. Havoc tried to cut him off with an elbow drop, but Damian was wise to it. Havoc begged for mercy. Damian whipped Havoc from pillar to post, but Havoc caught Damian with a drop toehold into the bottom turnbuckle. Havoc dominated with a lot of help from Paul and his towel. At one point, Damian worked his way out of a sleeper, but Paul grabbed Damian’s leg, allowing Havoc to catch him with a back bodydrop. Havoc gave Damian a high velocity Irish whip and Damian sold it great. Havoc connected with a couple of elbow drops for near falls. Damian rolled away from a couple of more to set up the comeback. Damian used an honest-to-God Polish hammer and a high backdrop to set up the bicycle kick. Lights out for Nore. Paul rang the bell at the count of one. Confusion reigned at the desk with Paul pointing the finger at Reno. Off camera, Santel laid Damian out and draped Havoc on top of him. Referee Ricky Bell ran back to the ring and made the three count. Santel propped Havoc up, as he held his aching jaw. Riggins called it a travesty. Closing Thoughts: I had mixed reactions to so many things about this show. Seemed like a pretty hot crowd, although there were times they could barely be heard with the way the audio was mixed. I really liked the idea of the double Indian Deathlock finish in the opener. Problem was the mistimed cluster of a finishing sequence, so it didn’t come across like a stellar title defense for the new champions. Using Big Rig in a tag match was kind of a waste. J-5 has size but didn’t get a chance to show much else. There was a lot to like about Harley/Cane, and it would have been a first rate match, if not for those few glaringly awkward spots. The replay of the finish is generally a nice touch, but not that one. St. John couldn’t call a move correctly to save his life in that match. He didn’t have a clue about the triangle. Hayes made a strong showing and Boogie sold big for him. Hayes’ punches look just like Lawler’s. Boogie’s showed a lot of emotion in his promo, but he had a hell of time with the verbal aspects of that promo. I liked the idea of the vignette to introduce Matt Dillinger, although he may not be going by that name in SAW. Paul as the Anti Nature Boy made for some pretty rich comedy. It felt like the segment would have been more effective if it was edited down a bit. The deal with Paul handing out the artifacts from Nore’s European tour was some classic cornball comedy and one of my favorite parts of the show. Damian Adams is a terrific babyface. He shows great fire and sells like there is no tomorrow. I liked the idea of the finish as a way to generate outrage and Towel Boy hate, not to mention setting up a rematch. It sure sucked that the neither camera caught Santel’s interference, though. |
