In front of approximately 60 fans, Georgia Wrestling Entertainment made its Cochran debut Saturday night at the Rec. Department Gym. This was the first show in Cochran since Galaxie Pro Wrestling ran here several years ago. GWE is run by Jerry Stephens and Chris Harrelson (who works under a hood as the Iraqi Mercenary). Stephens serves as ring announcer as well as doing in-house commentary. The promotion really stresses a family-friendly, patriotic vibe. There was an American Flag hanging above, and the ring apron was red, white, and blue. The company's web site has a mission statement which includes no obscenities, alcohol or drugs. During the intermission, Stephens bought the children in the ring (The Freak was there also) and they had the kids say "Say nope to dope." As I was taking pictures to do a news story for my newspaper, I can't offer a lot in terms of observations. What did stand out is that the first three matches didn't have clean finishes. I'm all for not keeping fans all night, but for a six-match card which started at 7:30 pm, getting out of there at about 9:03 means the show was a bit short. Anyway, here are results: Jody the Blackheart defeated The Iraqi Mercenary (with Buford T. Justice) by dq Wild Bill pinned TJ Crews with his feet on the ropes "The Bulldog" TW James (with Chaos) and Scotty Carmichael wrestled to a double dq Carmichael won a "Ring of Honor" Challenge versus Damian Dread to win the GWE Cruiserweight Title. He also won the services of a valet introduced as Misty Dawn. Loco-Motive pinned "The Prodigal Son" Bobby Joiner. (both men had valets, I didn't catch the names) I didn't see the finish, though fans were yelling LM cheated. The Freak pinned Chad "Big Bank" Barfield in the main event. Barfield stops an irish whip into the turnbuckle, but Freak rolls him up from behind. Stephens said the promotion plans to return to Cochran the first Saturday of every month.
