SAMMARTINO’S DIRTY FINGERNAILS

While in Japan years ago I descended down an escalator in a large department store in Tokyo. A Japanese girl was standing at the
entrance ready to stop me for a promotional gimmick she was selling.
�Excuse me,� she said. “May I see your thumbnail?� I presented my left thumb to her and she said, “Look, you have a
dirty fingernail.�
With that, she took out a small box, opened it, and proceeded to rub some oily substance on to my left thumbnail. Then, she retrieved
from the small box a buffer and started to buff my nail to where it was really shiny.
She then grabbed my right hand and brought my right thumb up next to my left thumb. She said, “See, you now have one clean
fingernail and one dirty fingernail.� So I bought the little box and went on my way.
I was on the trip with Jimmy Golden, Rip Tyler, Mike Paidousis, Dick Murdoch, and Bruno Sammartino.
The next day we were all traveling on the fast moving bullet train. Bruno was sitting behind me. I raised up from my seat and turned
around with my knees now placed where I had been sitting.
I said, “Bruno, let me see your thumbnail. Bruno, you have a dirty thumbnail.�
As I held his right hand, I opened the box and applied the oil to his right thumb. I buffed it to where it was really shiny. I then grabbed his
left hand and brought both thumbs together and said, “See, you now have one clean fingernail, and one dirty fingernail".
I then sat back down.
Bruno slapped me across the back of my head and said, “Give me that box".
