The Assassins joined Capral, announcing that Ray Gunkel & Buddy Fuller had still not proven themselves worthy of a shot at the World Tag Team Title. Gunkel & Fuller came on later claiming the Assassins were dodging them because they were scared. FEBRUARY 7, 1969 (FRIDAY) ATLANTA, GA ATLANTA MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM (Paul Jones Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Georgia Tag Team Title Match: Assassin #2 & the Professional* defeated Ray Gunkel & Buddy Fuller Notes: Assassin #2 & the Professional had been the reigning Georgia Tag Team Champions since they defeated Alberto & Ramon Torres on January 25, 1969, in Atlanta. Fans protested that the Assassins pulled a switch during the match between Assassin #2 & the Pro and Ray Gunkel & Buddy Fuller. Assassin #2 had limped to the ring prior to the match. Assassin #1, who had come to ringside during the bout with no limp at all, and both Assassins were limping to the dressing room following the match. FEBRUARY 14, 1969 (FRIDAY) ATLANTA, GA PAUL JONES SPORTS ARENA [P] (Paul Jones Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) Notes: It was reported in the program for this card that NWA President Sam Muchnick was reviewing claims submitted to them about the February 7, 1969, match between Assassin #2 & the Professional and Ray Gunkel & Buddy Fuller, where it had been alleged that Assassin #1 replaced his partner during the match. The Assassins were at ringside during the match between Crawford and Buddy Fuller. Following the match they left him lying in the ring, bloody and motionless. The Assassins announced they had fired manager Jack Crawford. MARCH 21, 1969 (FRIDAY) ATLANTA, GA ATLANTA MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM [P] (Paul Jones Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Georgia Tag Team Title Match (DQ and CO Rule Waived): Assassin #2 & the Professional* defeated Ray Gunkel & Buddy Fuller by countout Notes: Assassin #2 & the Professional had been the reigning Georgia Tag Team Champions since they defeated Alberto & Ramon Torres on January 25, 1969, in Atlanta. During their match against Ray Gunkel & Buddy Fuller, Assassin #2 & the Pro squabbled about something in their corner, and Assassin #1 charged the ring, dropkicking Fuller and knocking him from the ring, resulting in referee Leo Garibaldi counting him out. According to the program for this card, the results of the NWA investigation into the February 28, 1969, match between the Assassins and Ray Gunkel & Buddy Fuller, where Jack Crawford interfered, were announced. It was decided that since the Assassins had fired Crawford, showing they disapproved of his actions on their behalf, they would only be reprimanded and fined. However, the World Tag Team Title held by the Assassins was still held up pending further investigation in the matter. It was reported that Crawford admitted to the actions, but accused the Assassins of giving him specific instructions to interfere if they got into any trouble and the title seemed to be in jeopardy. Still, his admission of guilt resulted in the NWA suspending him from Georgia indefinitely. It was announced that there would be a one-night tournament for the Georgia Tag Team Title on the card on April 4, 1969. The title had been held up after the NWA reportedly reviewed the match where Ray Gunkel & Buddy Fuller defeated Assassin #2 & the Professional to win the title on March 21, 1969. The NWA said the match should have stopped completely when anyone other than the legal men entered the ring, thus the title change was not valid.
