Notes: Buddy Rogers had been the reigning Eastern States Heavyweight Champion as recognized by the Boston, MA, office since he defeated Killer Kowalski on December 2, 1952, in Boston.  This title replaced the AWA World Heavyweight Title that had been recognized there since 1928.  Don McIntyre had been billed as Southern Heavyweight Champion since March 16, 1953.  Both men retained their titles since there was not a clean ending to the match.
