MARCH 7, 1883 (WEDNESDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – DeGIVE GRAND OPERA HOUSE (Promoter – Unknown) Mixed Graeco-Roman / Collar-and-Elbow / Catch-as-Catch-Can Match: Duncan C. Ross versus Thiebauld Bauer Notes: No documented results for this card have been found. Thiebauld Bauer was billed as a ‘Professor’. It was reported the purse for the match between Bauer and Duncan C. Ross was $200. It is unclear as to whether this match ever actually took place, as nearly five years later a card on December 12, 1887, was reported to be the first professional wrestling match held in Atlanta. JANUARY 6, 1888 (FRIDAY) – SAVANNAH, GA (Promoter – Unknown) > Mixed Styles Match: Duncan C. Ross defeated Greek George Notes: It was reported that one of the styles used in the match between Duncan C. Ross and Greek George included Ross’ specialty, the Side Hold, and that the two men had a side bet of $250 on the match. It is unclear as to what venue was the site of this card. JANUARY 16, 1888 (MONDAY) – ATLANTA GA – CONCORDIA HALL (Promoter – Unknown) > Mixed Styles Match: Duncan C. Ross defeated John Muhler (2-1) Notes: It was reported that 300 were in attendance for this card. John Muhler took a fall at Graeco-Roman style, but Duncan C. Ross countered with falls in the catch-as-catch-can and collar & elbow styles. It was reported that the men had a side bet of $300, and that the winner would receive 85% of the gate receipts with the loser getting the remainder. It was reported that Sergeant Walsh, the only man ever reported to have defeated Ross in a mounted sword contest, was traveling with Ross. Mr. Hopper managed Muhler. |
