In the match between Oki Yama & El Mongol and Bob Armstrong & Enrique Torres, Yama used a swinging Hangman hold to finish off Torres, and it was instantly noted by Capral that the hold was the one used by Butcher Vachon to subdue his opponents. This began speculation that Vachon was perhaps the man under the mask. El Mongol was disqualified during his match with Mr. Wrestling for hitting the referee. El Mongol had been billed as Georgia Heavyweight Champion since October 10, 1967. Enrique & Ramon Torres had been the reigning World Tag Team Champions since they defeated Lars & Gene Anderson on May 12, 1967, in Atlanta. There was an interesting item in the program for this card where Crawford made allegations that Mr. Wrestling was Tim Woods. He said he had narrowed it to Woods after considering it was not Ray Gunkel, Verne Gagne, or Dale Lewis. He also claimed he was being a good sport when he announced that El Lobo was Jose Gonzalez from Barcelona, Spain. However, during the match between Enrique & Ramon Torres and El Lobo & Oki Yama, Yama was unmasked and identified as Stan Vachon. DECEMBER 8, 1967 (FRIDAY) ATLANTA, GA ATLANTA MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM [P] (Paul Jones Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Mr. Wrestling defeated El Mongol > Loser Unmasks Match: Oki Yama defeated Avenger #2 Notes: As part of the stipulation, Avenger #2 was forced to unmask following the match with Oki Yama, and was identified as Ramon Torres. Jack Crawford managed El Mongol & Oki Yama. The program for this card featured a picture of Tim Woods, whom Crawford was claiming to be Mr. Wrestling. Paul Jones reported in the program that he had grown tired of El Mongol getting himself disqualified to keep the Georgia Heavyweight Title, and that he was considering suspending Mongol from all future bookings if he did not sign for a match with Mr. Wrestling waiving the disqualification rule. Crawford responded in the program to that threat that the match on this card would not be for the title, and that he would be calling Jones bluff. DECEMBER 9, 1967 (SATURDAY) ATLANTA, GA WAII STUDIOS (Paul Jones Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Bobby Shane defeated El Mongol by disqualification Notes: This was for the Live Atlanta Wrestling television program hosted by Ed Capral. Jack Crawford managed El Mongol. Crawford and Paul Jones joined Capral to discuss the pending suspension of El Mongol, and Crawford remained adamant that Mongol did not have to sign for a match waiving the disqualification rule. By the end of the discussion, Jones had made the suspension effective immediately, much to the dismay of Crawford and Mongol. Next |
