| BIG BLUNDER SAID ON TV
October 1, 2003 – Dick Steinborn Len Rossi’s blunder was the best I ever heard. It happened on live Chattanooga TV. I once owned a house trailer that I had pulled from Atlanta on my way to Indianapolis. I stopped off in Nashville to visit Len, who had been a friend for many years. He is the one who told me the story. Len told me he had wrestled the World’s Junior Heavyweight Champion, Angelo Savoldi. In the third fall, as Angelo was getting his tail whipped and leaning against the top turnbuckle, Len threw a right hand punch where Angelo ducked and Len hit the turnbuckle. Len pulled back as if he had sprained his wrist. I can’t remember if he lost or the match was stopped because of the sprained wrist. Two weeks later, Len was being interviewed on Chattanooga TV about their return match coming up with Savoldi. The announcer asked Len what had happened two weeks earlier? Len told me he said, “I bealed him across the ring, rushing in to throw punches at the champion. I looked into his eyes and I could see his ass was glassy … I mean, his eyes were glassy.” It’s a classic and been past around in many dressing rooms. |
